After 36 years, a moment that was in the making finally appeared for the Canadian men's soccer team.
Canada officially claimed its place at the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualification with a powerful 4-0 win over Jamaica, marking the team's impressive return to the world cup since its only appearance in Mexico in 1986. 36 years of hardship and dedication was displayed on a cold evening at Toronto's BMO Field. The amazing batch of determined Canadian players, and the team coach, John Herdman, who single-handedly transformed the team, worked together and brought out an unbelievable victory. The 2022 FIFA World Cup will be held in Qatar, and is one long-awaited event to mark your calendars for.
"This country, they never believed in us because we gave them nothing to believe in. They believe now," he said. "If we all get behind each other, this is the time for everyone to get behind football and unite, because we can be a powerhouse," said John Herdman.
So what lies ahead for Canada before it competes in the largest sporting event in their soccer history?
It's uncertain at the moment what the next eight months will exactly look like for Canada before it travels to Qatar. However, Herdman is known for going to great lengths to prepare his teams, which includes having an opinion on things even beyond the athletic aspect of soccer, but rather the well-being of his team. Additionally, fans all over Canada are certain he will go the extra mile in order to ensure his team is ready and prepared, both physically and mentally. Herdman's unbelievable attention to detail has earned him the respect of his players and staff and individuals all around the world.
Between now and the awaited trip to Qatar, the athletes are determined, committed, and ready to make Canadian history with the support of their coach, fellow teammates, and the individuals of Canada.
